As Bourne remembers most of the details of his Treadstone past, the driving force of the earlier films is mostly gone. What's less good : the writers are painting themselves into a corner a bit at this point. The setpieces are as well done as you'd expect of Paul Greengrass, and the action is top-notch. Matt Damon is great as Bourne, taking serious knocks and gamely running about like a man fifteen years younger. You can't blame the producers for that, but the result doesn't always thrill in the manner of the older ones. Jason Bourne (not a great name for the film) is both a return to the Damon era, but also a break from it, and it's clearly making conscious choices to advance the plot in a fresh way. ![]() In fact, the Bourne films really benefit from being watched back to back - especially the much-maligned Bourne Legacy, which is not only a better film than it gets credit for, but a really clever way to make a Bourne film with no Bourne. On rewatch, it's much better than I recall. Somewhere along the road I stopped giving the series much attention, and though I had previously caught this film, I'd not really given it much attention at the time. Like many people, I got Bourne fatigue at one point, with this series spanning 15 years by the time of Bourne 5. ![]() To learn more about how and for what purposes Amazon uses personal information (such as Amazon Store order history), please visit our Privacy Notice.
